Story Starter: Golden Date

This beautifully etched date shines out of the stone case for an old barometer outside a local cottage called, of course, Barometer Cottage, but it could equally be part of a church, a lychgate, a school building. It makes me wonder about both the craftsman who created it back in 1859 and the careful hand who keeps that gold paint fresh today. What does it make you think of and can you weave it into a story? Still looking for 2000 words and 3000, please.

Oh, and if you’re new to my Story Starter series and are thinking, “Huh? What’s this about?” you can read about the general idea here: Story Starter: Shells
