On a trip abroad recently, I was lucky enough to find myself on a rooftop terrace watching the sun going down on Madrid.
It was a moment to be savoured at the end of a fabulous holiday enjoyed by my other half and I, and it wasn’t long before we were joined by a like-minded hotel guest keen to see the orange glow fall over the sprawling expanse of this bustling city.
During the course of swapping pleasantries, I discovered that our lady companion lived in Canada, having moved there from Scotland 40 years before. We chatted some more and it transpired that her brother lives in Broughty Ferry, to which I declared was just a 10-minute car journey from my place of employment in Dundee.
When I answered her question as to where I worked, she enthused about being a fan of “The People’s Friend” declaring that she loves it – which is always good to hear.
Isn’t it such a small world, though? It seems to me whether you travel near or far, one thing you can be sure of is that there is always a “Friend” close by.
That’s why I love our readers’ letters in the Between Friends section, where we can share and enjoy our tales together. I wonder what story you would share?
