Cooking Made Easy!

They say a poor workman always blames his tools, however, the Chinese beef stir-fry I tried to rustle up for a quick meal the other night was definitely hampered by my ageing wok.

So, it was almost like a gift from the gods when I was asked to test a Salter Megastone wok. Said to be five times tougher than standard non-stick cookware, it means you can use little or no oil.

I sprayed the pan lightly with oil and began the stir-fry process following the same recipe and ingredients that culminated in the sticky, charred offering of the previous week. One thing became apparent very quickly, I really didn’t need to add extra glugs of oil here and there just to keep the food from adhering to the base. True to the promise, I did only require a smidge of oil.

The wok – and thankfully meal – got the thumbs up. The good news is we have a great competition offering two sets of this kitchen cookware as prizes in “The People’s Friend” February 2 issue.

Two lucky winners will each win a Salter Megastone bundle, comprising a three-piece saucepan set and 28 cm wok (the same as the one I tested), all are abrasion, scratch and corrosion resistant, even with metal utensils. The set is also dishwasher safe.

Don’t miss out on your chance to win one of these prize bundles and pick up your February 2 “Friend” copy – of course, it’s packed full of fabulous short stories and features, too!
