Poetry In Our First Christmas Bumper Issue

Poetry is such a special part of the “Friend”.

Many of our readers like to cut out the poems they like and keep them in a scrapbook or in their purse or wallet.

I love this idea — it’s a little pick-me-up that you can carry close to you all day, and find them whenever you need them most.

A poem can evoke so much in just a few words, can’t they?

They can help us through hard times, make us feel seen and heard, and . . . make us feel merry and bright!

Bumper issue

Our first Christmas bumper issue of the year is out on Wednesday 1 December, 2021.

I love these bumper issues because it means we get to showcase more poetry than we usually can in the weekly. There are three wonderful poems in this first issue.

Get into the festive spirit on page 47 with Emma Canning’s, “It’s That Time Again”. It really captures the excitement of the run up to the big day, and some of the chaos, too!

“A Christmas Prayer” by Chris Young features on page 86. This one is a gentle, faith-based poem to guide reflection and think on the meaning of Christmas.

Finally, “Christmas Angels” by Judy Jarvie reminds us of those everyday heroes who work or volunteer over Christmas. We’d be lost without them. Find it on page 143.

Warm wishes

I hope you enjoy the poetry in this issue — and the fabulous stories and features, of course!

Why not spread the cheer and read them aloud to family and friends?

Don’t forget that our second Christmas bumper issue will be out on Wednesday 15 December.

There are even more festive poems awaiting you there!
