“Friend” poet and author, Patsy Goodsir, has two poems out this week! “The Garden” is in our weekly and “Everyone Is Good At Something” is in our current Special. Let’s meet Patsy.
Tell us about your poems “The Garden” and “Everyone’s Good At Something”.
“The Garden” is most definitely based on my own which is what I call “my little corner of chaos”. Lupins and roses everywhere. I love colour.
“Everyone is Good at Something”. I firmly believe this. I’ve met such interesting people. Many with little or no academic qualifications
How long have you been writing poetry?
About 20 years. After bringing up four daughters. I hosted a Poetry Group in a small cafe I used to run. After listening to them I thought, why not give it a bash. I did and was greatly encouraged by a group member, after I wrote a poem about his wife
The late David St John Thomas of Writing Magazine also used to visit and inspired me both with poetry and short stories. The latter I’ve written all my life.
Who are some of your favourite poets?
Burns, Coleridge, Frost and Kilmer to name but a few.
Where does inspiration strike for you?
Comes from life experience and all the beautiful creatures around me. Open your eyes and truly see.
What’s your favourite poem?
“The House with Nobody In It” by Alfred Joyce Kilmer is enchanting. You can really imagine that lonely house. And Robert Frost’s “Stopping by Woods on A snowy Evening” holds so many messages.
Finally the words of Robert Burns grab my heart every time. Who wouldn’t love to be told “til a’ the seas gang dry”.
Thank you, Patsy!
