We were saddened by the passing of Hilary Mantel last week. Did you read the ‘Wolf Hall’ trilogy?
Many of us on the Fiction team loved the trilogy and we were all devastated to hear the news.
Philippa Carey had a great point:
I believe it took her 10 years for her first book to be published, so new authors should stick to it and not give up.

We’re hosting our online Serial Writing Workshop on 28 September. Do you find it easy to write a story with various viewpoints or do you prefer to stick to one voice?
Lots of you said that it entirely depends on the story being told. We agree!
If you could rewrite the ending of any book, which would it be and how would you change it?
A4. There are a few romance books where I would have the heroine just up and leave the hero — even getting to marry a duke and live in his vast estates isn’t good enough payment for dealing with some absolute cads 😅

What’s everyone reading at the moment?
There is always such wide range of books on the go.
Here at the Fiction desk, Tracey is reading ‘The City Of Tears’ by Kate Mosse. Lucy has just started Richard Osman’s new book, ‘The Bullet That Missed’ and Abbie is about to start the next book club pick – ‘Luckenbooth’ by Jenni Fagan.
If you owned a bookshop, what themed events would you organise?
We would absolutely attend all of the events you all came up with in the thread!
A6. Friendship and dating groups for people who would rather meet in a book cafe than in a pub/club. Of course, books would be used to make the matches 🙂 #PFWritingHour

A Miss Havisham day when everyone dressed in net curtains soaked in tea. We could also have a Margery Allingham day, where everyone dressed in 1930s clothes and solved crimes
