“The People’s Friend” Writing Hour is held every Tuesday at 11 a.m. on Twitter and it’s always a brilliant time! It’s a time when we can get together with writers for a chat.

Every week we summarise everything that went on right here for those who missed out.

This week we talked about current writing projects, successes and favourite characters.

Are you embracing the autumn colours and aromas? What’s your favourite parts of this season?

Apples and pumpkins are ready for harvesting, the leaves are turning, our favourite TV shows are back and we’re ready to wrap up warm for a walk or cosy up at home.

There’s a lot to love about Autumn!

How many writing projects do you have on the go at the moment?

Most of our writers said they have up to four projects on the go right now. Some have more than five in the works!

Good luck everybody.

Who’s your favourite character that you have created? Did you base them on someone you know?

Some of our writers couldn’t choose between their own characters! As some of you said, “it would be like choosing a favourite child.”

There was a pretty even split between those who have a favourite character. Half were based on somebody and half were not.

My favourite answer was this one though:

If you had to give a presentation on a series of books or one author in particular, what or who would you choose?

There was such a huge range of subjects. It would make for an interesting series of presentations!

What would you consider to be your best writing success?

We love to hear about your successes.

We always get a thrill whenever we get to deliver good news, too!

Who used to receive annuals for Christmas? What were your favourite ones?

The People’s Friend Annual 2023 is out now and it got us thinking about the annuals we used to receive as children.

Beano, Dandy, Bunty, Tammy, Jackie, Blue Peter, Rupert the Bear . . . so many happy hours spent poring over them!

We’ll see you at our next Writing Hour on Twitter — 11 a.m. on Tuesday 11 October, 2022.

Abbie is the newest member of the fiction team at the "Friend." She loves how varied the role is - every day is different and there is always a new story to read. She is keen to work closely with established writers and discover new writers, too.
