Editor’s Diary: Reflections On Lockdown Life

editors diary

Regular readers of my Editor’s Diary will know that this year I have taken more photographs of my local area than in all the 26 years I have lived here.

I have captured my little town in every mood, from the first buds of spring to August’s flowers and lush foliage.

The snap above is from last weekend’s walk. As you can see, the weather was glorious.

And just look at those reflections of clouds in the River Tay! The water was as still and smooth as glass.

Though lockdown restrictions are easing, I’m not in any rush to go further afield very often.

I have enjoyed not having to jump in the car and drive for miles every day. And I still haven’t finished exploring what’s on my doorstep.

Staying close to home has given me more time for the things I enjoy. Instead of sitting in the car for over an hour every day as I travel around, I’ve been reading, gardening and baking.

Though the baking has had to slow down — it’s too tempting to have cake in the house on a regular basis!

I’m walking further and more often. And feeling much fitter as a result.

I’ve also been horse-riding regularly on my Highland pony Texa, much to her disapproval. She likes an easy life!

For the first time in ages, I’ve made time to watch films at the weekend.

Recent favourites include “Green Book”, “Hidden Figures” and “A Walk In The Woods”, which is based on the Bill Bryson book of the same name.

And I can also recommend the nine-part TV series “Mrs America”, which has just finished on BBC2.

Set in America in the 1970s, it has a stellar cast and is absolutely gripping.
