When Lucy Lost Her Sparkle

I’m sure you have all come to know and love Lucy as we in the office have. Her bubbly personality and cheery ways brighten up our day.

As she has written about, Lucy was heavily involved in the preparation and planning for our 150th Birthday party. But in all her planning, she missed one vital thing!

Her lovely sequinned-covered dress had a bald patch – in fact two. The sequins had fallen off in two areas. So Lucy had a dilemma, did she wear the dress and hope not too many people noticed the bald patches, or did she wear something else?

It just so happened she had also brought along a classic, little black dress. But this is not what we expect from our Lucy, she was a star in party planning so it seemed appropriate that she should shine in her original dress.

Fortunately, Lucy had little bag of spare sequins so there was nothing else for it. Out came my needle and thread and on went the sequins. Big ones, little ones, cupped ones and flat ones. Who knew there were so many types?

I’ll let you into a secret, she wasn’t the only one needing running repairs that day. Wendy, one of our designers, suddenly discovered an ever-expanding hole under the arm of her lovely vintage-style sweater. So out came the needle and thread again and our Cinderellas made it to the party.

The Beatles may have had their “Lucy in the sky with diamonds” but we have something much better, we have Lucy in the office and, with or without sequins, she still sparkles.

I am part of the Features Team and my hobbies include knitting and crafts, reading and foreign travel – which are also my main responsibilities on the “Friend”. If you walk into the office you will soon spot my desk, it’s the one piled high with knitwear and balls of yarn!
