The Memory Walk 2020 With Alzheimer Scotland
Alzheimer Scotland is calling on people to step up and join in with their annual Memory Walk, which this year has gone virtual.
As most physical events have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the charity is encouraging people across Scotland to support them during this difficult time by taking part in their own walk over the weekend of September 19-20.
Where you walk is totally up to you.
And with so many great places to choose from, you can create special (socially-distanced) memories with family that will last a lifetime.
Whilst the usual Memory Walk events cover a 5 km distance, this year it’s “your route, your way”. And, best of all, there is no entry fee this year.
All the charity asks is that you consider fundraising or making a donation. And encourage your friends and family to sign up, too!
Every step will help ensure nobody faces dementia alone.
Participants will be provided with exclusive content over the big weekend, including warm up videos, good luck messages, specially selected Spotify playlists and more.
Memory Walk Big Weekend
Willing walkers will also be able to share pictures and memories of their loved ones on Alzheimer Scotland’s Digital Memory Walk Wall.
The coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on Alzheimer Scotland’s ability to raise money.
Every penny raised from of the Memory Walk Big Weekend will go directly towards the support they offer across Scotland. This includes their 24 hour Freephone Dementia Helpline, which witnessed a 30 per cent increase in calls during lockdown.
Sarah Cheung, Stakeholder Engagement Lead at Alzheimer Scotland, said:
“Every year thousands of people take part in a Memory Walk. Many in honour or memory of a loved one.
“We hope that our supporters will still come together, albeit virtually, to raise awareness and funds, but also to recognise and celebrate the dementia community.”
