Watch Your Step, Falls Can Be Serious

One in five falls requires hospital treatment, and a hip fracture is one of the more dangerous possibilities. By avoiding falls, serious injuries such as bone fractures might also be prevented.

  1. Exercise can help to reverse muscle weakness and poor balance, which can contribute to falls.
  2. Two and a half hours of moderate exercise each week is the recommended amount.
  3. Side effects from medicines can add to the risk, so speak to your GP or pharmacist if you’re worried.
  4. Make sure you attend regular vision tests and that your vision is as good as it can be.
  5. A shoe with low heels and firm, slip-resistant sole is ideal, and avoid ill-fitting slippers around the house.
