An Afternoon Telling Stories With The “Friend”

an afternoon with the friend

On Saturday, May 11 we held our “Afternoon With The ‘Friend'” event at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh.

We’re proud to say it was a great success. Thanks in no small part to an audience full of enthusiasm for our magazine — and questions for our speakers!

We very much enjoyed the opportunity to tell the stories of historic “Friend” contributors Annie S. Swan (as part of PhD student Charlotte Lauder’s talk, a version of which you can see here) and William C. Honeyman.

It was also wonderful to hear from Archive Manager David Powell, who was on hand to show off some old “Friend” TV ads, and to talk about the curiosities DC Thomson has hiding in its cupboard!

If you missed the event, keep checking back here for some videos of authors Kate Blackadder and Jane Tulloch captivating our audience with some of their fiction!

In the meantime, here are a few pictures from the day.

Remember, the “150 Years Of ‘The People’s Friend'” Exhibition runs until May 25 and is free to enter!
