Editor’s Diary: Planning Ahead

Editors Diary

I’ve mentioned how much I love my job in my Editor’s Diary before.

Even though that’s true, I do need a break every now and again to recharge my batteries.

I have a holiday coming up, which is very exciting. But before I can leave my desk, there is work to be done!

Everyone on the “Friend” team has to “get ahead” for going on holiday, and I am no exception.

Even though my colleagues are capable of handling things when I’m not around, I always want to leave my work in as organised a state as possible.

Which is why this week was dominated by lists — lots of them! There is something very satisfying about working your way through a long list, ticking items off as you go . . .

I had to make sure all the pages were accounted for in the issues that would be worked on in my absence. Then I had reports to put together, and tasks to delegate.

And, of course, I had to write my Editor’s column for the magazine in advance.

In between all that, I put the finishing touches to the entries I’m submitting for this year’s forthcoming magazine awards. More about that in a future Diary post . . .

And I squeezed in a meeting with the lovely people from our distributors, who had lots of good ideas for promoting the “Friend”.

150 years of Christmas cookery

Last but not least, I sat down with colleagues from the PR and marketing team to show them our latest 150th publication.

It’s called “150 Years of Christmas Cookery”, and is a fantastic collection of festive recipes from the “Friend” Archives.

You can pre-order your copy from our shop now. Click here for more information.

Though I should warn you that some of the recipes may seem a little unusual by modern standards!
