The photo shows plates, that much is clear. But so what? Well, these are the plates we found when we opened the kitchen cupboards of our self-catering apartment in Crete in June. Of all the designs they might have been, what are the chances? Me, a British journalist whose business is words and fonts and lay-out and all the rest of it, serving up my Greek breakfast on plates printed not only with the English language, but printed with terms from my very own profession! It was a lovely coincidence, and that’s the most obvious story starter theme.
