The village of Kenmore at the eastern end of Loch Tay poses well for the camera from more than a few different angles – from the loch-side beach, the “black rock” viewpoint on the wooded slopes of Drummond Hill and from where I took the notion to aim for today – the top of Kenmore Hill.
And there’s no better time of year to visit than early November. This is when the autumn colours are at their best.
Kenmore Hill isn’t that high – less than 1700 feet – and, starting from the wee forestry car park off the Amulree road, much of the climbing is done before we even need to put the boots on. From here, there’s a choice of three coloured waymarked trails to follow.
Having been given such a nice clear day, it was an easy decision as to which one I’d be taking. The red route is about 3-4 miles long and the longest of the three. What cracking views there are along the way over Kenmore away to Schiehallion behind and out along Loch Tay to the Lawers tops. This is definitely one to save for a good day!
