Out And About To East Haven

out and about

I’m lucky enough to be able to get out and about along some gorgeous coastal walks.

I adore the sea, and take every opportunity to get out in the fresh air.

One favourite walk is the five miles to Carnoustie. But before you get there, you arrive at the tiny fishing village of East Haven.

It was founded in 1214, and although the fishing stopped a long time ago, it’s a popular spot due to its beautiful beach.

Back in the 1930s it was popular with the Royal Family when they were holidaying at Glamis.

A few years ago a pathway was introduced, and the route from Arbroath is well-used by cyclists, walkers and dog-walkers.

You can also walk along the dunes and be even closer to the sea.

Along the way I always stop to give a couple of mints each to two adorable ponies, then it’s back on the amble to East Haven itself.

The locals have incredible pride in their village, and they look after it very well.

Last year saw a stunning sculpture by local artist, Bruce Walker unveiled to commemorate Airedale Terriers’ service during the First World War.

The dogs were used to carry injured men and messages during the conflict.

You can then go down onto the beach and just breathe in before the wander back to Arbroath . . . or head to Carnoustie for lunch!

Even our very own Willie Shand likes this walk!
