Fiction Desk Catch-Up

Hello, and welcome to this week’s Fiction Editor’s blog.

Let’s catch up with news from the Fiction Desk.

Christmas Stories

Thanks for your Christmas story submissions for 2024.

All our available slots have now been filled.

Stories We’re Looking For

We’re now looking for stories set mid-to-late November, for our weekly issues.

For the Special, we’re planning from mid-January 2025 onwards.

Our Annual Publications

Our yearly publications are available to order now, from dcthomsonshop.co.uk.

The ‘Friend’ Annual has 25 brand-new, heart-warming stories to enjoy.

Our lovely ‘Friendship Book’ has an uplifting thought or poem for every day of the year.

And ‘The Magic Of Christmas’ is packed full of feel-good festive reading.

Digital Publishing

Here on the blog, we’ve been discussing ‘People’s Friend’ fiction appearing on digital platforms, recently.

At this stage, we’re still at a very early, initial test phase of publishing some ‘People’s Friend’ fiction digitally.

The purpose of this is to publicise the quality fiction available in the magazine.

Syndication

Syndication is where work is licensed to a third party for inclusion in its own publication.

Syndication is not the same as publishing digitally on a platform.

Publishing on a digital platform involves republishing, not syndicating, that work.

Contracts

If you’re on a Standard Contributor Contract with us, terms and conditions are laid out clearly at the start of the contract:

  • You retain the copyright to your content
  • You are granting us the rights to publish your content in any media format (e.g. on digital platforms) and in any country
  • You are granting us the rights to reuse your content

No contractual terms and conditions have changed.

If You Have Further Questions

If you have further questions about digital publishing, please don’t hesitate to contact your assigned editor.

Lucy Crichton

Better known as “Fiction Editor Lucy”, I am always on the look-out for the very best short stories, poems and pocket novels. As well as sourcing enjoyable content, I enjoy working with our established contributors, encouraging new talent, and celebrating 155 years of “Friend” fiction!
