Knitting Preview: March 12, 2022 issue

knitting preview

Liz shares her knitting preview of what’s coming up in this week’s new issue.

Treat yourself to a luxury top with lace contrasts this week. Our sweater is worked in merino and silk designer yarns, with a lovely soft feel.

Instructions for this top come in six sizes ranging from Extra Small to 2XL. Actual sizes range from 55.5 cm (22¾ ins) to 125.5 cm (50¼ins).

Silk Blend Yarn

The yarn used is Manos Del Uruguay Silk Blend in Oxygen (SB3214) with the contrast yoke and edgings in Manos Del Uruguay Marina in Arboretum (MA0037). These yarns are available from selected stockists or you can order direct from www.laughinghens.com.

Manos del Uruguay is a non-profit organisation that supports local women to make a living while remaining in their village and raising their families. They are renowned for their fantastic colours, which have become their trademark. They’ve been producing beautiful, natural fibre, hand-dyed yarns since 1968.

Each Manos skein comes with a tag with the name of the skilled artisan who made it and the co-op’s location. This creates a beautiful connection between the crafter using the yarn and the woman who created it.

An Intermediate Pattern

We have graded this design as Intermediate. The garment is mostly in stocking-stitch (knit one row, purl one row).

It uses cable stitches and the contrast yarn to create the yoke and edgings.

It’s not too difficult, but a bit fiddly if you are not used to the technique. We would recommend you practise the stitches first, if this if your first time – particularly using a contrast yarn

It will see you through all the seasons and is a timeless design, so why not treat yourself to a touch of luxury?
