Willie Shand In Kilmany

Anyone into landscape photography will appreciate the value of being in the right place at the right time. Sometimes only a few seconds either way can make all the difference.

Today, by pure coincidence, I found myself in the right place at just the right time. I’d walked across the hill from The Gauldry to the quiet Fife village of Kilmany.

Of course, no-one coming to Kilmany can leave without paying a visit to the statue of her greatest son — the racing legend, Jim Clark.

When I went to take its photograph you can imagine my surprise at finding, parked in front of it, a wee red sports car, It wasn’t just any old sports car though, but the very Lotus Elan given to Jim in 1962 by Colin Chapman, the founder of Lotus.
