Founded in 1869

“The People’s Friend” is DC Thomson’s flagship title and the longest-running women’s weekly magazine in the world.

First gracing newsagents’ shelves on 13 January 1869, the magazine has an ever-rising subscription base and is loved and trusted all around the world, with readers in Canada, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.

For more than 150 years, we have produced content each week that reflects our loyal readers’ lives whilst retaining the traditional family values “The People’s Friend” was built on.

Our readers are engaged, active and just loving life! Regular craft, cookery, puzzles, travel and gardening content reflects their diverse range of interests.

We’re proud to publish more fiction than any other women’s magazine and this is our USP. People who love to read find a full week’s worth of entertainment packed into “The Friend” for only £1.99.

And our readers join together regularly to help others with campaigns such as our inspirational Hand of Friendship Campaign or our annual Love Darg charity appeal which started in 1885.

As well as our award-winning print magazine, we have a digital edition, busy Twitter and Instagram feeds, a very lively Facebook community and a podcast.

Come and join us!

Stuart Johnstone

Editor

It is my absolute pleasure and privilege to be the Editor of such a wonderful brand as “The People’s Friend”. I have been a journalist for almost a quarter of a century, but it’s fair to say this is my biggest challenge yet. It’s also one I am very happy to be faced with.

I am excited about the months and years ahead and I can’t wait to get to know you, our wonderful readers, as we embark on this journey together.

“The People’s Friend” is not just a magazine; it is a way of life and has been for generations of readers. I am more than aware of the weight of history on my shoulders, and I give you my word now that everything I do as Editor will be done with that in mind.
