Editor’s Diary: A Spot Of Keyboard Trouble

Do you remember the kids’ TV show “Sesame Street”? It opened every episode with the statement that “Today’s show is brought to you by the letter X.” All sorts of games and puzzles themed around that day’s letter followed.

Well, this week’s Editor’s Diary is brought to you WITHOUT the letter C.

I am having a spot of keyboard trouble. At the end of last week, that key on my wireless keyboard stopped working. I have no idea why!

It means that if I want to type that letter, I have to open my laptop and use the keypad there. Doing that alters the size of everything I see on my monitor. And shutting it again does the same!

Don’t even get me started on the number of times I’ve tried to use a keystroke to opy and paste (see what I mean!!)

It is very frustrating indeed.

I am looking forward to Team Tuesday tomorrow, when I will take the faulty keyboard in to our lovely IT team. They will either fix it or give me a new one. I hope!

In the meantime, I find myself rewording messages and e-mails to avoid the troublesome letter. If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll see it only appears in one spot in this blog.

It is testing both my powers of ingenuity and English skills! And my equilibrium . . . (well, I am unable to type the word I would normally have used here). You get the gist!
