knitting and craft

Since this is our famous Christmas bumper issue, we have both knitting and craft for you inside!

Readers can take advantage of our patterns to knit a bubble sweater, and make a little festive angel.

Our bumper issue brings you both knitting and craft.

For knitters, we have a lovely bubble sweater, worked in Stylecraft Highland Heathers Aran, which has a rich, tweedy effect.

We have chosen the shade Wild Salmon (3745) but if you would prefer something else, check out the colours available at www.stylecraft-yarns.co.uk. You can find stockists’ details there, too.

Instructions come for sizes ranging from 76/81 cm (30/32 ins) to 127/132 (50/52 ins). Actual size is approx. 19/14 cm (7/5) ins, which should make for a comfortable fit.

We have graded this sweater as intermediate.

The bubble stitch takes a bit of practice. We recommend that even experienced knitters try it out a few times before beginning the sweater.

The yoke and sleeves are worked in a broken rib, giving a contrast to the textured body and shaping is minimal, allowing you to concentrate on the pattern.

A little angel

Our craft this week is a simple decoration for the tree using recycled materials.

The angel body and wings come from a clean, plastic milk bottle. The only other materials required are some beads, paper fasteners and jute twine. Tools include a set of compasses and an awl or sharp needle, too.

We have graded this as easy and it could be a great project for all the family – just watch little fingers with the awl or needle

This angel is taken from the book “The Eco-Christmas Craft Book” by Marrianne Miall, published by Search Press, ISBN 9781782219729, RRP £12.99.

Don’t forget, there is an offer in the magazine for UK readers to order the book post free.

If you like to repurpose materials and fancy some new decorations for your tree, this is the ideal design.
