Fiction Sneak Peek: October 29, 2022 Issue


Let’s look at the stories and serials in this week’s issue.

Our Opening story this week is Pamela Kavanagh’s “The Journeyman’s Trial”, set in the 1890s. Jasper must choose – submit his best work to the Guild, or help a girl in need? With artwork from Ruth Blair (above).

There’s “Something Strange” going on in our next story, where a new neighbour proves to be a spellbinding presence on the street. By Patsy Collins, artwork by Mandy Dixon.

“The Cat’s Out Of The Bag”, in our next story by Annie Harris – and someone has a ‘feline’ that this may not be their lucky day!

Could the words of the teacher who once guided Dawn, help her once again? “A Different Class”,  by Teresa Ashby, is illustrated by Tracy Fennell.

Entertaining a niece and nephew proves more difficult than expected, in Cole Todd’s “A Walk In The Park”. Artwork from Mandy Murray.

In Stefania Hartley’s “A Little Temptation”, Tanino is trying to lose weight before a wedding. Artwork from Jim Dewar.

And in our final story, one young lad tries to help the family finances with his own, unconventional, plan. “Louis The Spy” is written by Marian Myers and features artwork by Kirk Houston.

Serials

A new five-part serial, set in 1817, starts today – “Beyond The Masquerade”, by Kitty-Lydia Dye. To Laura, it seems that the gap between rich and poor in Norwich has never been greater…Artwork by Helen Welsh.

In the penultimate instalment of “Welcome To Hannah’s House”, one guest at the braai hasn’t been invited…by Ginny Swart, it’s illustrated throughout by Ged Fay.
