Great news! We’re bringing “The People’s Friend” 150th anniversary celebrations to Edinburgh in May, with a series of events hosted by the Scottish Storytelling Centre.

The Exhibition

Friday 10 May – Saturday 25 May, Storytelling Court

Step back in time with “150 Years Of ‘The People’s Friend'”, an exhibition of original cover artwork from our prolific artist J Campbell Kerr. Running from Friday 10 May – Saturday 25 May in the Storytelling Court, this is a must for anyone who has ever found themselves transported around the country — or beyond — by the latest issue of their favourite magazine.

An Afternoon With “The People’s Friend”

Saturday 11 May, Netherbow Theatre, 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Join Angela and members of the “Friend” team for a light-hearted and entertaining afternoon celebrating the life and times of the world’s longest-running women’s weekly magazine.

With contributions from “Friend” staff, historians and guest authors, where better to have a cup of tea and slice of cake on a Saturday afternoon? There will even be a few surprises and treats along the way!

Café Voices: 150 Years Of Jam, Jute and “The People’s Friend”

Thursday 16 May, Storytelling Court, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Join storytellers from Dundee and Fife as they help celebrate “The People’s Friend’s” milestone anniversary. Hear stories and songs of Dundee life and culture, and explore the magazine’s enduring appeal.

Tickets for this event are priced at £5. A £1 booking fee applies for bookings made by telephone or online.
