Features Sneak Peek: August 8, 2020 Issue

sneak peek

It’s the second issue of August already, and the rain is hammering down outside. Whatever the weather, we’re here to brighten up your day with a sneak peek our new issue!

This week, Willie Shand is exploring Deeside — a gorgeous part of Scotland. He’s surrounded by history on a walk between the handsome commuter town of Banchory and stunning Crathes Castle.

The National Trust on film

Last week, Pat Coulter visited one of the filming locations for “The Secret Garden”. In this issue, she’s sharing a selection of National Trust properties that have starred on the silver screen.

It’s no great surprise that there’s more than a few Jane Austen adaptations in that list!

Winnie Mabaso update

When Lisa Ashton got in touch with us, asking if we wanted a feature with the latest news from the Winnie Mabaso Foundation, it was an immediate yes.

Read in this week’s issue about the extra mile the team went to protect their charges during the pandemic, with some of them moving in with the girls in the orphanage who were vulnerable with weakened immune systems.

Tilly And The Buttons

Our Mairi has been chatting to Tilly Walnes, the sewing expert who started the website Tilly And The Buttons. Tilly’s chatting about her new book and offering some top sewing tips to crafty folk.

Meanwhile, in the garden . . .

Alexandra Campbell is talking about looking roses in the Notes From My Garden page, as well as giving her advice on booking yourself in to visit some of the great gardens that have now tentatively reopened. It’s actually quite a good time to enjoy the places that are normally too busy to really enjoy.

And So Much More!

And that’s far from all! We’ve also got our book recommendations for the month, a celebration of the original “Ocean’s Eleven” film on its sixtieth anniversary, and Susie Kearley is talking about otters — such a gorgeous creature!
