Neil McAllister enjoys a host of historical and cultural delights in wonderful Waterford, in the September 10, 2022 issue of “The People’s Friend”.
Whilst Dublin’s fair city is Ireland’s social and economic hub, Waterford was once the country’s most important port. This heritage has created a fascinating place to visit, filled with beautiful buildings, history, crafts and culture – all just a short drive from the UK.
Join Neil as he explores the local area taking in such attractions as the Medieval Museum and Bishop’s Palace. With so much to see and do here, the only problem with visiting Waterford is that we won’t have enough time to see everything we’d like to. A return visit is likely to be on the cards!
Kelda Wood

Kelda Wood founded the charity “Climbing Out” in 2010, to help rebuild confidence and motivation in those suffering mental or physical trauma or illness. Eight years earlier, a bale of hay had fallen on her, leaving the sportswoman with an irreparable leg injury, ending her dreams of becoming an Olympic rider.
In spite of that, since then, Kelda has gone on to become the first solo para-rower to cross the Atlantic Ocean. She raised an incredible £50,000 for charity in the process and received an MBE for her work.

50 Years Of Mastermind

There have been a few famous seats on television: Father Jack’s stained armchair in “Father Ted”, the “Big Brother” Diary Room chair and the Central Perk sofa in “Friends”. However, perhaps the most emotive of all is the “Mastermind” chair.
This week marks the 50th anniversary of the popular BBC quiz show, so to celebrate its glorious half-century, join Laura Brown in the spotlight as she answers a quick-fire round of questions about its fascinating history.
Sreeprur Village

For over 30 years Pat Kerr has been called “Pat Mummy” by thousands of children in Bangladesh.
She is the founder of Sreeprur Village, a UK-based charity which provides shelter, food and hope to vulnerable mothers and children in Bangladesh, one of the poorest countries in the world.
Strongly believing that poverty should not tear children from their mothers, Sreeprur Village currently provides over 400 mothers and children with a place they can call home, where they can transform their lives with educational and vocational skills.
