Editor’s Diary: Back To Work

back to work

Writing this Editor’s Diary, I realised something: there’s always a lot of catching up when you’re back to work after a holiday!

That was certainly the case this week. Most of Monday was spent dealing with the near-500 e-mails jostling for space in my inbox. Then there was the physical mail to deal with, too . . . Sometimes I wonder if going away is worth it!

But, of course, it always is. We all need a break, and looking at my holiday photos reminded me of the wonderful time I’d had in the Outer Hebrides.

I promised to share more with you, so I hope you enjoy the above snap of a beautiful Vatersay beach. Whenever things get too busy, I imagine myself back there.

Meet the “Friend” competition

This week wasn’t all about catching up, though. On Wednesday, the winners of our “Meet the ‘Friend'” competition, which appeared in the magazine in January, visited us in Dundee.

I love these days — it’s so nice to spend time with our readers. This year’s winner, Pat, brought her daughter-in-law Trish with her, and we had such a lovely time with them. We sat down for tea and biscuits, then showed them how we put an issue of the “Friend” together.

Next, we treated them to a delicious lunch in one of our favourite restaurants, before they were whisked off for a tour of our archives department.

And, of course, we presented them with “Friend” goody bags to take home with them.

A great time was had by all!

Now: back to work!
