Our Highlights From A Blockbuster 150th Anniversary Year
We’ve marked our landmark 150th anniversary year in a whole host of different ways.
From reader holidays to sell-out events, from parties to publications, it really has been a great time to work on the world’s longest-running women’s weekly magazine.
We’ve already shared some anniversary thoughts from our readers and contributors. So it’s high time we shared some of our thoughts with you, too!

“Where to begin? The 150th anniversary year of the “Friend” has been packed with highlights for me. I loved our birthday party in Dundee, with special guests, dancers and a fabulous cake.
“The reader holiday weekend at Alvaston House Hotel was a joy from beginning to end . . . and I will never forget the thrill of appearing on the same radio shows as firstly, Malala Yousafzai and secondly, Margaret Atwood.
“I’ve travelled all over the UK, from Dundee to Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, Crewe, Somerset . . . I’ve met some truly wonderful people, and been humbled to hear just how much the “Friend” means to them.
“But if I have to pick just one moment, I think it would be receiving the Guinness World Record certificate for the longest-running women’s magazine in the world.”

“A highlight of mine was finally holding our 150th Collector’s Edition in my hands.
“It took over a year to research and design, and was a real labour of love for the whole team. We felt a real sense of historical responsibility to portray our magazine’s place in history accurately, and to present this information in an engaging and visually appealing way.
“The icing on the cake was when it won “Special Edition of the Year” at the PPA Scotland Awards.”
