This fabulous weekend break will bring people who read and love the “Friend” together in celebration, offering everyone who attends the chance to renew existing friendships and make new ones, too. You will meet some of “The People’s Friend” team, learn about the fascinating history of the magazine, take part in interactive crafting workshops, enjoy talks from favourite contributors to the magazine. I look forward to meeting you there to help us celebrate our 150th anniversary.

Your room awaits…
Relax in style in one of Alvaston Hall’s comfortable, well-equipped bedrooms, with en suite bathrooms and lots of thoughtful touches. At Alvaston Hall there are 3 different types of rooms:
Standard – Fantastic-value Standard rooms are a real home from home with TV, tea and coffee making facilities, biscuits replenished daily, comfy chairs and reading lights, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, telephone and safe.
Signature – For added luxury, treat yourself to a Signature room, which has all the amenities of a Standard room and includes a pillow menu, toiletries selection and a complimentary bottle of wine.
Royale – This delightful room offers all the perks of the Signature Experience but on a slightly grander level. Beautifully furnished and with rich and sophisticated decor, the surprisingly spacious Royale room is more like a suite than a regular hotel room, and offers a touch of luxury to make your stay that little bit more special.

Breakfasts: With a choice of full English and continental buffets, or dishes cooked to order, breakfast will set you up for a fun-filled day ahead.
Evening meals: Choose from the carvery, extensive buffet or Alvaston’s menu of delicious dishes served straight to your table. Make sure you leave room for dessert!

We will get the weekend started with a drinks reception on Friday evening, then we have a host of activities for you to join in with:

★ Craft sessions run by the “Friend” team

★ Exclusive tour of the gardens led by one of Alvaston House’s expert gardeners
★ Tea with the “Friend” Editor
★ Short story writing workshop (places limited to 30, book on arrival) with Lucy & Alan from the fiction team
★ “Friend” themed quizzes and games
★ Selection of films to watch if you want to relax
★ Lots more “Friend” themed activities.
★ We know all good things need to come to an end so we will have a tea and cake session on Monday morning before you leave.

Prices are per person, there is a £30 supplement for single occupancy (per night) but if you get in quick there are a limited number with no supplement:
